Beaufort County installed a U.S. flag retirement box at the Beaufort County Public Works Annex, 23 Shelter Church Road, Beaufort.

The flag retirement box is possible through a partnership with the National Association of Counties, the National Flag Foundation, and Beaufort County Council and is of no cost to the County.
Proper flag retirement etiquette requires respectfully folding American flags. Members of Boy Scouts of America will be responsible for the disposal and burning of the worn flags.
“We are pleased to have this retirement box available to all residents of Beaufort County,” said Eric Greenway, Interim County Administrator.
“May is Military Appreciation Month with Armed Forces Day, Military Spouse Appreciation Day and of course, Memorial Day. As we honor and reflect on the sacrifice of our military. It is a privilege to offer a way to respectfully retire our American flags.”
Contact Beaufort County Public Works at 843-255-2800 to make an appointment for access to the County Public Works Annex to retire.
