<p><strong>September 28:</strong><br />Help the Hoo-Hahs will be hosting the 3rd Annual 5K Walk/Run benefiting women with gynecological cancers. The track is a flat course around Hutchinson Island and the race begins at the parking lot of the Savannah Trade and Convention Center at 8 a.m. The race is open to individual of all ages. Jogging strollers and dogs on leashes are welcome. Cash prizes will be awarded to top finishers. September is National Gynecological Caner Awareness Month and 1 in every 20 women will be diagnosed with a GYN cancer in their lifetime. Independence Day is celebrated in the Town of Port Royal with a dual fireworks display presented by Parris Island and the Town of Port Royal. <p><strong>July 4:</strong><br />July 4th Celebration Parris Island! Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island is scheduled to host its annual Independence Day event and fireworks display on Wednesday, at the Peatross Parade Deck from 6:30-10 p.m. The Fourth of July celebration is free and open to the general public. The Parris Island main gate is scheduled to open to traffic at 5 p.m. Visitors are required to have their driver’s license, vehicle registration and proof of insurance with them in order to enter the depot, and all vehicles are subject to search by military police. The Parris Island Marine Band is scheduled to perform a mix of patriotic to popular music from 6:30-9:15 p.m. Following the band’s performance, a fireworks display will start at approximately 9:15 p.m. and conclude by 10 p.m. The Parris Island Historical and Museum Society will also present a living history display with volunteers wearing period Marine Corps uniforms and exhibiting equipment from World War I through Vietnam. Visitors may bring blankets and lawn chairs for this event. No outside fireworks, including sparklers, pets or coolers, will be allowed at the event.
